Formula 1

History: It was May 13th of 1950 when The Formula 1 World Championship first started; it started at Silverstone in England. And started in red style: Alfa Romeo 158 domination was terrific, nothing more than four drivers were in the front: Farina, Fagioli, Fangio and Parnell were absolute in the practices. Farina won the race.

The following two years Ferrari would became the most important name of
car races. Their titles brought an amazing passion to the sport. All places that Ferrari was, always had a lot of people to come close, get pictures and looked for souvenirs.
Across time there has been a great evolution on those cars motors, technology and aerodynamic. The cars became faster and safety is the first priority, in such a car it is possible to have an accident at 300 km/h without suffering any kind of injury. Obviously it isn’t always like that, and a tragedy like death can happen, like it happened with Ayr ton Senna. The best F1 driver ever. He crashed into a wall at 270km/h and had instantly death. His brain moved and because of that he died.
After more than five decades Ferrari continues to be the best F1 team and main question in the beginning of this year’s championship was: "By the way, can anybody stop Ferrari?".
Formula One is facing one of the most continuous domination we have ever known. Ferrari team had won the constructors championship since 1999 and Schumacher had won four championships in a row! For the others, only hope, challenge and persecution.
The FIA again introduced changes in the rules. Three are very important:
- new qualification system, with the pre-quali and the final quali on Saturday;
- only one engine admitted during all the weekend. If the team have to change engine, their driver would lose 10 positions on the grid;
- permition to use a test driver on Fridays practices with a third car, just valid to teams above 4th in the last year´s championship (not allowed for Ferrari, McLaren, Williams and Renault).

Portugal
Formula 1 is one of the most important and expensive sports in the world. It attracts not just people who like cars but also those that love sports and high speed. There are great racers like Montays, Shumacher and Irvine.
There are also the constructors that are the brands that build cars. Ferrari is the most know but Williams BMW is good too.
In Portugal, Formula 1 isn’t very developed but Pedro Lamy was in times a great racer. There was a racer that made history in Formula 1. His name was Senna and he won lots of races. Unfortunately he died in a car accident during a race. Now Ralph Schumacher is almost beating his record.

We have never seen a Live Formula 1 race for it is very expensive, but on television we sometimes see it. It looks quite interesting and challenging. We would like to try one of those cars. It should be fun! Don’t you????
