My sweet Florence

Piero 2008-05-01

I live in the country side, but I come from Florence. That’s why most of my friends are in Florence and I spend my free time with them in Florence.

We stay at their home, we talk about school and music, we play computer games, we go out and visit some other friends of us or we go to museums . We all like art and visit the current exhibitions. We go to “Boboli” too or to “Villa Demidoff” near Pratolino. We take the bus or go by motorbike. Sometimes we go to the cinema.
We also listen to music or see video-cassettes.
Recently I have been to the seaside with my friends.
We went there by train. I was wearing a pair of tennis shoes and they were soon filled with sand as I hadn’t taken them off. I wore a sweater and jeans, and they got wet when we played volleyball as the ball was often dropping down into the water. It was windy and cloudy, but despite of it we had a wonderful time. We enjoyed ourselves very much because we seldom go together to the beach.
In Florence there are lot of facilities for young people.
There are many cinemas and one of them is a new one and a very big one, called “Warner Village Il Magnifico”. You must book your seats here before the movie starts.
There are many theatres too, the most popular are “La Pergola” and “Il Comunale”, the first is for drama, the second is for ballets and concerts.
There are many indoor swimming-pools where you can go in winter and in summertime in the open air.
There are many gyms and five athletic tracks.
There are lot of tennis courts, many pitches to learn soccer and a big stadium called “Artemio Franchi” where the Florentine team play every Sunday.
There is a “Palazzetto dello Sport” where you can watch volley ball matches, karate competitions, athletics meetings and other sports.
There are many discos and pubs.
There are music shops and places where you can listen to live music.
There are museums full of important works of art like Botticelli’s “Primavera” and “Nascita di Venere”, Donatello’s sculptures, Raffaello’s “Madonna della Seggiola”, Michelangelo’s “Tondo Doni” , Cimabue’s and Giotto’s Madonne, Lorenzo Ghiberti’s “Porte del Battistero”, Michelangelo’s “David”, Caravaggio’s “Bacco”, and beautiful churches and buildings, like “Santa Maria del Fiore”, “Santa Croce”, “Santa Maria Novella” and “Palazzo Pitti” ,“Palazzo Strozzi”, “Palazzo della Signoria”, and “Palazzo Rucellai”.
There are many libraries and cafeterias inside them.
There are an airport and a big train station.
There are also lots of important Italian and foreign Universities.
There is a wide park called “Cascine” where young people can go and play, crossed by the river Arno.
But an ice-skating stadium is lacking in my town. Ice-skating is a winter sport in many holiday-resorts and in Florence for the last five years ,during Christmas holiday, they have built a little place for ice-skating at “Parterre” near “Fortezza da basso” .I tried to ice-skate and definitely loved it. There were lots of queuing up for hours waiting for a pair of ice-skates. They all were enthusiast about it. I want to build a permanent ice-skating area, it would be not very expensive. I think it would be fine 2,50 є per hour. It will be open from 12 AM to 12 PM. In the evening there will be disco-music, and some popular deejay will entertain young people. It would be cool to ice-skate while disco-dancing !
