Many Italians are crazy for this sport and that’s why many accidents regularly happen at the stadium. Some years ago people side that the Italian championship was the most spectacular in the world, but now we think it’s simply the most competitive. In our championship, called “Serie A”, there are 18 teams, in which the most popular are: Milan, Inter; Juventus, Lazio and Roma. Although these teams have always had a big blazon in the latest editions of Champions League weren’t very competitive and went out of the competition too early. But now thinks have changed in fact with Spain we are the only two cowntries which still have four teams in the Champions League.
In Italy we live for football and it’s straggering that our national teams went out of the World Cup losing to South Korea although refrees, especially Byron Moreno didn’t help us.

Team Ferrari
Certainly the most famous Italian sport team in the world is Ferrari, the Red car built in Maranello, which has won the latest three editions of the F1 championship. This because Ferrari is a close group where everybody gives their contribution: mechanics, engineers and especially the drivers Shumacher and Barrichello work together for the triumph.

Basket
Basket is a sport that in Italy isn’t very appreciated. However, in 1999 Italy became European Champion and every basketball fun hoped that this sport would become more famous than now. But this didn’t happen and when in Turkey there was the European competition again in 2001 we lost to Croatia in the quarter final. This is why Italy wasn’t selected to take part in the World Championship in Indianapolis last year.

Volleyball
In addition volleyball is important in Italy too, especially since our girls won to USA three months ago becoming Champions of the world.

Cycling
Than there is cycling that’s always been famous in our country. In the ‘50s rivalry between Coppi and Bartali was at the centre of the scene. After a difficult period Italian cyclists came back to win with Pantani and this year, although a lot of problems with doping during the “Giro d’Italia” our most important cyclist, Mario Cipollini has become the World Champion.

Moto GP
Do you know Valentino?
With the HRC Honda Team he won the last two worlds championship in the MOTO GP class, always closely followed by Max Biaggi with Yamaha.

Swimming
We are famous in swimming too. Our swimmer Rosolino and Fioravanti are olympic winners. With Brambilla and Boggiato they made the Italian swimming famous al over the world.
